  • 1 pound ziti pasta
Sauce
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
Cheese
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
Other
  • 1 egg
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and cook the ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente, then drain it well.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, chopped fresh parsley, salt, and black pepper, mixing until everything is well incorporated.
Assembly
  1. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Add half of the cooked ziti to the baking dish, followed by half of the ricotta cheese mixture dolloped over the pasta.
  3. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and a quarter cup of Parmesan cheese over the ricotta layer.
  4. Pour half of the remaining marinara sauce over the cheese, then repeat the layers with the remaining ziti, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  2. Let the baked ziti rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.

Notes

For an extra boost of flavor, consider adding some ground beef or Italian sausage to the marinara sauce. You can also customize the cheese blend with your favorite varieties, such as provolone or fontina.
