Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chocolate chips optional

Equipment

  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • large mixing bowls
  • whisk

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan. Line the pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Mixing
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  2. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking and Cooling
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out by the parchment paper.
  2. Cut into squares and serve. Store any leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Notes

For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them. You can also add a pinch of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor.
