Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan. Line the pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Mixing
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- If desired, fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking and Cooling
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out by the parchment paper.
- Cut into squares and serve. Store any leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Notes
For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them. You can also add a pinch of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor.
