Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grab a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
- If using fresh green beans, blanch them in boiling salted water for about 5-7 minutes, then drain and rinse with cold water; if using frozen, no need to thaw or cook beforehand.
Assembly and Baking
- In a large bowl, combine the green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper, mixing everything until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into your prepared casserole dish and then bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and heated through.
- Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle the French fried onions evenly over the top, and then bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
- Let the casserole stand for a few minutes before serving to allow it to set slightly.
Notes
For an extra touch of flavor, consider adding a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the green bean mixture. You can also experiment with different types of fried onions, such as crispy jalapeños for a spicy kick.
