Growing Steps
- Start cabbage seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Sow them 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting trays or small pots.
- Harden off the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7-10 days before transplanting.
- Plant hardened-off seedlings in a sunny location with well-draining soil, spacing them 18-24 inches apart.
- Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, and fertilize every 2-3 weeks.
- Harvest cabbage heads when they are firm and solid by cutting them at the base with a sharp knife.
Notes
This recipe is for growing cabbage, not preparing a culinary dish. Adjust watering and fertilization based on your climate and soil conditions. Watch out for common pests like cabbage worms and aphids and take appropriate organic or chemical measures to control them.
