Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine and Bake
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For chewier cookies, slightly underbake them. For a richer flavor, use a mix of milk and dark chocolate chips. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.
