Ingredients

Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
Ricotta Mixture
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
Other
  • 9 sheets lasagna noodles no-boil or oven-ready
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese shredded

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Large mixing bowl
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Preparation
  1. Cook the ground beef with onion and garlic in a large skillet until browned, then drain any excess fat. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, letting the sauce simmer for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan, egg, fresh parsley, salt, and pepper until well mixed.
  3. If using traditional noodles, cook them according to package directions; otherwise, prepare your no-boil noodles as directed.
Assembly & Baking
  1. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange three lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  2. Evenly spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then top with a third of the mozzarella cheese and a third of the remaining meat sauce.
  3. Repeat the noodle, ricotta, mozzarella, and meat sauce layers once more, then finish with a final layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the rest of the mozzarella.
  4. Cover the dish with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes; then remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set.

Notes

For best results and easier slicing, allow the lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes after baking before cutting and serving.
