- Wash and sort the blackberries, discarding any bruised or overripe fruit.
- In a large pot, combine the blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until thickened.
- Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
- Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to seal.
Notes
For a smoother jam, mash the blackberries slightly before cooking. You can test the jam for thickness by placing a small amount on a cold plate and seeing if it gels.
