  • 1 pound Stale bread, cubed About 8 cups
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks Celery, chopped
  • 2 cups Chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 Eggs, lightly beaten optional, for binding

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for 10-15 minutes until lightly golden.
Sauté Aromatics
  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and celery, cooking until softened (about 5-7 minutes).
Combine and Bake
  1. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, broth, herbs, salt, pepper, and beaten eggs (if using).
  2. Mix gently until well combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through. If desired, cover with foil for the first 20 minutes to prevent over-browning, then uncover for the remaining time.
