Preparation
- Fill planting pots with potting soil, leaving an inch of space from the rim. Make sure the pots have drainage holes.
- Plant 3-4 green bean seeds in each pot, about 1 inch deep. Gently cover the seeds with soil.
Growing
- Water the seeds thoroughly after planting to ensure the soil is moist. Place the pots in a sunny location where they can receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Once the green bean plants sprout, usually within 3-5 days, you can start incorporating the garlic. Lightly amend the soil around the green bean plants with minced garlic cloves; this helps deter pests and potentially enhances flavor.
- Continue watering regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. You can also add a balanced liquid fertilizer every other day as an optional step to boost growth.
Harvesting
- Monitor the green bean plants closely. Green beans typically mature quickly, and you should see harvestable beans within 7-10 days from planting. Pick the green beans when they are tender and bright green, about 4-6 inches long.
Notes
This method focuses on rapid growth for fresh consumption. The garlic primarily acts as a pest deterrent and may subtly influence the flavor of the beans. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
