Preparation
  1. Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado flesh with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency.
  3. Add lime juice, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño (if using), salt, and black pepper to the mashed avocado.
  4. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more salt, lime juice, or jalapeño to your preference.
  6. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or your favorite dippers, or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a diced tomato or a pinch of cumin. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating.
