Ingredients
  

Burger Patties
  • 15 ounce canned black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 0.5 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.25 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 0.25 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mash the rinsed and drained black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still a bit chunky.
  2. Add the bread crumbs, egg, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the mashed black beans.
  3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
Cooking
  1. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  2. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
  3. Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
Serving
  1. Serve the veggie burgers on buns with your favorite toppings and condiments.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a dash of smoked paprika or a few drops of liquid smoke to the patty mixture. These burgers are also great made ahead and reheated!
