Preparation
- In a large bowl, mash the rinsed and drained black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still a bit chunky.
- Add the bread crumbs, egg, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the mashed black beans.
- Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
Cooking
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
- Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
Serving
- Serve the veggie burgers on buns with your favorite toppings and condiments.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a dash of smoked paprika or a few drops of liquid smoke to the patty mixture. These burgers are also great made ahead and reheated!
