  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup peanut butter
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups confectioners' sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Measure out 9 cups of rice cereal squares and place them into a large bowl; set aside.
  2. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.
Melting and Combining
  1. Microwave the chocolate mixture for 30 seconds, stir, then continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth.
  2. Stir in the vanilla extract until it is well combined.
  3. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the rice cereal and gently stir until all pieces are evenly coated.
Coating and Finishing
  1. Transfer half of the coated cereal into a large resealable plastic bag, add half of the confectioners' sugar, and shake until coated.
  2. Repeat the process with the remaining cereal and confectioners' sugar.
  3. Spread the finished Puppy Chow onto wax paper to cool and set before serving or storing.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture. Store Puppy Chow in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to maintain freshness.
