Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork, then stir in the granulated sugar, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Baking
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined; do not overmix.
- Fold in any optional add-ins like chocolate chips or chopped walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling
- Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For the best flavor, use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots. Avoid overmixing the batter, as this can lead to a tough banana bread. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra warmth.
