Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil plus more for greasing
Egg Wash (Optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt, then mix well.
  2. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Baking
  1. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and shape each into a round roll.
  2. Place rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 15-20 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), brush rolls with an optional egg wash, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds before baking. These rolls are best served warm.
