Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and thinly slice the potatoes and mince the garlic.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, ensuring the potatoes are evenly coated.
  3. Arrange half of the potato mixture in a single layer in a baking dish and sprinkle with half of the grated Gruyere cheese.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and cheese, then cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

For extra flavor, infuse the cream with herbs like thyme or rosemary before adding to the potatoes. Ensure potatoes are sliced uniformly for even cooking. For crispier edges, broil for the last few minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
