  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Frosting
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring (optional) desired colors

Method
 

Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl, then set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden, then let cool completely on a wire rack.
Frosting
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. If desired, divide the frosting into separate bowls and add food coloring to each.
  3. Once the cookies are completely cool, spread or pipe the frosting onto them.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the cookie dough or some almond extract to the frosting. Decorate with sprinkles for a festive touch!
