Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 lbs Potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold) peeled and chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 cup Milk or Cream warm
  • 1 tsp Salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper or to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Potato masher or large fork

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and chop potatoes into 1-inch cubes, place them in a large pot with enough cold, salted water to cover, then bring to a boil.
  2. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are very tender when pierced with a fork, then drain thoroughly.
  3. While potatoes are cooking, gently sauté minced garlic in butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Return the drained potatoes to the pot and mash them with a potato masher until mostly smooth.
  5. Pour in the warm milk/cream, garlic-infused butter, salt, and pepper, then gently mash until combined and creamy.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve immediately, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

For extra fluffiness, make sure not to overmix the potatoes once mashed, as this can make them gluey.
